My name is Karen Weir, and I'm a parent of 4 children ranging in ages from 10 to 29.  When my son was about 2 years old, his behavior changed, and among other things, he became a VERY picky eater, totally eliminating fruits and vegetables from his diet.  I don't know if you've ever tried to feed a fussy toddler, but I can assure you it is a battle you will NOT win.

He also developed chronic congestion, allergies and asthma.  We have since learned that he has Asperger's Syndrome Disorder (AS), a fairly common form of high functioning autism.  We firmly believe that his AS was at least contributed to by childhood vaccinations.  

In addition to this rather large and unusual issue, we also battled with typical issues such as frequent colds and flu which, for our son, would often lead to visits to the Emergency Room due to asthma attacks.  I also developed adult onset allergy induced asthma, which was exacerbated by viral infections.  Between my son and I we were on a first name basis with the staff in the ER!  When the H1N1 Pandemic Flu arrived, we were very conflicted on how to prepare.  Prior to H1N1, we were absolutely opposed to vaccinations, but both my son and I were in the "high risk" group for developing life threatening complications.

To say we were conflicted is really an understatement.  Regular colds and flus were in fact life threatening, so the news stories about this "pandemic" really had us scared, literally for our lives.  

I am thrilled to report that we did NOT receive the H1N1 swine flu vaccination, and in spite of the fact that my husband contracted the virus, my son and I did not even get sick!  My husband's co-workers were hospitalized and off work for 2 weeks and some even longer, but he managed to decrease his symptoms and was completely well again within 5 days!
